Roger, You received a double benefit. Nice to have more light and the plants add so much to our wellbeing. I think I will try growing some herbs like parsley. I read in Bird and Bloom magazine that some herbs under light do well. I just might plant myself in a chair right next to them.

Here in the UK we suffer the same problem at this time of year.
Two years ago we were worried about tender and semi-tropical plants that we had bought. We found a lamp system (the kind frequently used for cannabis growth) which was both low voltage/cool and giving close to sunshine spectrum.
Since then we have felt so much better during the winter. We placed the lamp above a door in the entrance hall to our house where we now have a beautiful display of flowering plants.
Since then we have also found an AeroGarden which works with similar lighting plus a hydraponic growing system. This sits upon our kitchen counter and supplies us with fresh salad leaves and a wonderful sunshiny effect to enjoy.
So, it may not be the officially recommended version of lighting but it works for us.
Give it a try, it's cost effective.
