Seniors Seek Happy Heart Foods

Seniors love to use the internet to research subjects.  It saves a trip to the library, saves gas, and the internet is easy reading.  While checking out  information on one of the leading causes of death, heart disease.  I came across a nice magazine article in Lifescript.beta, written by Carly Young, where she lists 10 foods which give us healthy happy hearts.

The list is:  Oatmeal, almonds, flax-seeds, garlic, apples, beans, soy protein, psyllium husk or hulls and exercise.

I set out to see how much I could include in my breakfast yesterday.  My hot oatmeal – was what I was planning.  A chopped apple with the skins still on, some nuts, psyllium hulls, unprocessed wheat bran made quite a combination using 5 of the 10 items on their list.

If you read their 10 foods list, you will find ways to sneak the items into your diet.  So now all we need to do is to get those happy feet going for a nice long walk.

While doing the research to find the best heart foods, I came across the American Heart Association web site which gives us another neat way to use the internet.  They have directions for making your happy  heart shopping list. Their site teaches us another new skill, internet meal planning.

Panda Lady searched for the best products that we could find to help not only seniors, but all people  who use Psyllium, flaxseed and oatmeal.  Our top recommendations are:
flaxseed products

Oatmeal Bread

psyllium

  1. I love chocolate so you can imagine my delight when
the health authorities discovered that it was healthy
    for you!

Then imagine my euphoria when I discovered a business
online that deals in healthy chocolate! This is real
chocolate without the processed sugar and paraffin fillers and preservatives that so-called chocolate
    candy bars have in them.

You have heard that blueberries and acai are also
good for your health and the Xocai chocolate has both
blueberries and acai in their power squares.

Thanks Mary for your information and compassion for
others. Thank you also for allowing me to provide
information on a food source which otherwise was
    considered an unhealthy indulgence.

  2. Sandy here from Australia.I am married with 5 kids, living on a farm. My family and I like to eat healthy, and we also take a wonderful health food drink. It has flax seed, resveratrol, antioxidants, and many health benefits. It has controlled my high blood pressure, my arthritis has dissapppeared, and I have more energy to get through my busy days.
So many good health products out there these days, but I believe ours is one of the very best, and a great home based business.
    Wishing everyone health and happiness.

  3. Hi Mary,

Thanks for the interesting article. I am a big fan of many of the foods you’ve listed for a healthy heart. Overly processed foods are simply not in my diet. I prefer foods rich in texture. My oatmeal is the whole oats not quick oats, I can’t imagine eating apples without the skin (I would stand near Mom as she peeled apples for apple pie). Almonds are among my favorite snack nuts, and I often use them (non-blanched of course) in my stir fry’s. I often enjoy whole grain breads with flax and other whole grains, and my 5 bean chili is a feast. Garlic is a mainstay addition to many of my meals.
Soy protein is not something I use a lot, but one way is the health snack soy nuts.
Now if I could just find a way to develop the habit of increased physical activity. ;-)
