Seniors go on line for Affirmations

Seniors go on line to use affirmations to make those changes in our lifestyle so important to us. Do you need to exercise, lose weight, give up a habit, make decisions, then use affirmations to provide the wisdom and strength to carry through.

Subconscious affirmations are mentioned   on Awake 200.com.
“The conscious mind primarily functions with the left side of your brain and the subconscious mind through the right side. Each side of your brain, also known as hemispheres control different actions and responses. The left side is responsible for more rationalized and logical behavior such as thinking, where the right side is more imaginative and expressive with feelings and emotions.”
The article continues “The conscious mind discriminates what we want to believe and accept. ” In other words it can talk us out of affirmations. This site suggests that the subconscious mind will allow thoughts to be accepted if we hear them in our sleep. This is a good article to read to understand how our mind controls our positive affirmations.

Reading affirmations: Whether you wish to read a whole book or one line quotes, what we read affects our thinking. How often you read and for what length of time will seal the affirmations in your mind and actions.

Writing: Gems for friends.com     gives this explanation. Simply sit down at a table and write what you would like in your life 15 times every day. An example is: “I am healthy, happy, wise and free”. When you are done know that the universe is taking care of it.”

Some people will take that writing and tuck it into a revered place, such as their bible, or some other place of respect. Don’t just toss it into the junk drawer. That means that you are disrespectful of your thoughts.

Throw away the negative by writing down the statement and burning, throwing in trash, or flush it down the toilet.  Replace the negative with the positive written statements.
Affirmations while walking.
“As I walked, I crafted my affirmation today, and noticed that as I said it to myself, my stride changed. I walked taller, more confidently, more powerfully. I want that all the time!” Valorie’s Link Blog .

Affirmations change our physical well being as our brain convinces our body of our worth.

Singing affirmations I had the experience of singing an affirmation as I walked, singing just one song over and over.  As I sang I picked up courage and strength  completing a 7 mile walk in the dark and through a dangerous part of town.

Choosing Friends Ever think about why we reject and accept friendships. Those who affirm our worth are welcomed into our circle of friends. Those who would pull us down or defeat our goals are pushed aside. Choose friends on line who build you up and who you can give a boost  so that we can lose those pounds, build muscles, write that book or whatever we wish to attain.

Panda Picked affirmations as a great method to keep us positive and always growing  as we age.  Whether you want to read one liners or find books on affirmations, go on line for your reading materials, walk or run while you repeat your affirmations, look on line for great places where you can enjoy nature. We seniors can even put on that tape recorder and do it while we take that famous afternoon nap. Skype, on line communities and other messenger services provide us with on line friends who affirm our worth when we can’t leave the house.

Seniors Travel with Dogs

Bring Fido Logo

                           Hotels  for     D O G      V A C A T I O N S

Seniors traveling like to include their furry four legged family members. Often this presents the question of where can we lodge for the night and include the whole family. The answer is to look for Doggie Hotels, where people can stay too.

Seniors go on line to Bring Fido site,  and use the “Where To stay” search in the center of the page.  Once you have read the reviews from other pet owners, checked out the maps for locations, know the regulations and prices,  you can register your reservation on the right side menu.  While there click on the dog house (motel), fire hydrant (play), and dog bone (dog friendly restaurants).  Hotels, bed and breaksfasts, campgrounds and motels from around the room welcome you and your dog.

Plan Fido’s vacation before you leave home so that everyone can enjoy the family vacation.  Use  Bring Fido  site for information on all your needs from dog sitters, restaurants, leash free recreation, vets, flight information,  doggie events, etc.  Everything you need for a hassle free vacation is found on Bring Fido.

Panda Picked Bring Fido.com as the recommended site for planning pet friendly vacations anywhere in the world. This is a no cost site based on the experiences of other dog owners. Don’t leave home without Fido. By the way your photo’s of your dog on vacation and your ratings of the services you used will  assist others using on line searchers for traveling with dogs.

Seniors use the Internet for Research

We seniors look beyond what we read in the newspapers and hear on the news reports.  While reading a newspaper article on exercises for feet, I noted at the end of the article a url where further information could be gleaned.  Off I went to the computer to see who had been the  main source of the  article.

The expert turned out to be the American Poliatric Medical Assoc.  I found 3 good ideas for Fighting the Winter Blues. One can use their search to locate  the nearest Podiatric Physician.  Links to their websites are available.  One can leave questions for the experts to answer. The many articles from rofessionals provided added information about feet and ankle problems. Recommended products by the Assoc. teach you to look for their symbol when shopping for foot products.

To do further research we go to our search tabs and enter pertient words related to foot health. After repeating the process several times we come up with various opinions on the subject of feet care.  This process made me think of composing a list of ways to help make happy feet.  Now this list of 5 helpful hints can be published in communities forums, articles or blogs or use for personal care. So here is my list which will appear several places online.  Maybe, just maybe your local newspaper will pick it up and list panda picks blog as the authority.

3. MASSAGE- increase circulation and rejuvenate the skin. Using lotion, rub toes in all directions

5. Wear smart shoes.  Carry the high heels and fashion shoes to put on when you arrive or use shoes with good treads  or clip on cleatts in the winter months of snow and ice .
Panda Picked the subject of seniors going on line to do research because it is so convenient, and we have many resources to tap into.  On line research  is another scource of information as we check out information for our own personal use or for the purposes of publishing.

Seniors On Line for Sleep Catch up

Panda Lady

Panda Lady

We Seniors like to  catch up with the late night humor by going on  line.  This humor is important to us as we know that humor helps us deal with what we find hopeless.

Our local radio station provides we Seniors who go to bed early the previous nights top ten from David Letterman. While waking I heard his list from last night program which was on a hot topic; ways to stimulate the economy.  It set my freshly rested mind to thinking  that stimulating the economy may not be the answer but rather being a little more responsible may be the answer.
Remember back when you gave allowances to your children. There was a price to pay right as we said it to be “earning your allowance”.  My thought is that we should give but we should learn to live frugal and within our means. So I created a list from a Seniors point of view who has been around the block a few times and made more than my share of financial mistakes.
Ten Ways to Save instead of Stimulate Economic Growth
1. George and Laura Bush should carpool to Texas with snowbirds RV-ing south
2. Sell the Bridge to Nowhere on a hundred year flexible lease
3. Obama should pay an inheritance tax when assuming office                                                               (Would anyone really want to inherit all this)
4. Feb. 17 09—all channels should become “The shopping Channel”or Info Commercial channels Many would turn the tv off and go get a job to buy all that stuff.

5. Charge daily rent on ALL unoccupied seats in the the House of Reps. and Senate.

6. Americans should buy only American made Pork Barrels

Note: Chinese made Pork Barrels do not exist at Walmart

7. Sell land and all rights to the Berring Strait Bridge/Tunnel to the Russians.                                               After all they gave us a good deal when we bought Alaska from them.

We should insist that there be a McDonald’s, Wendy’s and Texas Roadhouse  on the Alaskan side.

8. Surgeons should provide 2 for 1 surgery specials.                                                                                  Have surgery with a friend and split the cost. One get well card to be shared from the local Senior Center.
9. All New Homes  should be built on wheels                                                                                            When the morage goes default, merely move to another location. Ditto for those who can’t pay lot rent.
10. You can provide this one–I have run out of ideas.
Panda Picked on line humor that we can access the next day or write up our own.  After all humor is  contagious but we can’t lose out on our precious quality  sleep.

Seniors Under attack from Supposed Authority

Seniors continue to be targeted by on line scams as reported by the FBI. The following information is condensed from Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Flurry of Spam Targeting the Federal Bureau of Investigation

E-mails continue to enter our boxes as the sender pretends to be from the FBI. ”As with previous spam attacks, the latest versions use the names of several high ranking executives within the FBI and even the IC3 to attempt to defraud consumers.

”Official order” from the FBI’s Anti-Terrorist and Monetary Crimes Division, try to scare us into reacting in a way that will compromise our personal information. You are told to  confirm an inheritance or contain a lottery notification, all informing recipients they have been named the beneficiary of millions of dollars. To claim the large sum, recipients are instructed to furnish their personally identifiable information (PII) and are often threatened with some type of penalty, such as prosecution, if they fail to do so. Specific PII information requested includes, but is not limited to, the recipient’s name, banking information, telephone number, and a copy of their passport.

The spam e-mail allegedly from the IC3 states that the recipient has extorted money and will be given a limited amount of time to refund the money or face prosecution.  They try to  catch us Seniors off guard as we always want to be law abiding in our on line dealings.

Do not respond. These e-mails are a hoax.

The FBI does not send unsolicited e-mails of this nature. FBI Executives do not personally contact consumers regarding such matters. In addition, the IC3 does not send threatening letters to consumers demanding payments for Internet crimes.

Consumers should not respond to any unsolicited e-mails or click on any embedded links associated with such e-mails, as they may contain viruses or malware.

It is imperative consumers guard their PII. Providing your PII will compromise your identity!

Read the entire artictle and learn more information about previous warnings  on the IC3 site, http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

Panda picked the subject of persons posing as officials to scare us into revealing what we should not expose to anyone.  Remember, no legit organization whether a pay service or authority figure will ask
you for personal information. Most of us  know the “You have inherited” or “You have won” but it is the supposed authority that may cause of to over react.

Senior Lifestyle in the RV Defines Success

Seniors define success by living the lifestyle they choose to live in their retirement years.  Some want to fish, golf, travel, teach crafts, volunteer to help others, etc. etc.  One such lifestyle is to travel and live in an RV for part or perhaps all year.  Those going south to the warmer climates for just the winter months, dubbed snowbirds as they leave the north with the birds, find they can extend their time to do their favorite activities, i.e. fish, golf, travel, and volunteer.  Not to stay in the house during inclement weather means they have the lifestyle they desire with no weather restrictions.

An on line  business if more funds are needed, allows such freedom as one  can take their business with them and not be restricted to any locality.  In fact they can move with freedom from one camp spot to another, enjoying new adventures.

Feel Free to Join ULearn2Earn Social Networkers Community.

Meet Donna and Jake

I met Donna on an on-line community, ulearn2earn and invited her to share her story of success. She is just like us Seniors when she says, ”My computer/internet training is from years of trial/error experience only, my web design training is self-taught, and my internet marketing skills are feed from people that are already in the field of online marketing, I really believe in asking for directions. There are people out there to help you if you just ask the right questions on what you are looking for. I’ve had no formal training.” Her one advantage of course is that using the computer when younger comes much easier than for us seniors, but her idea of depending on others for guidance is good advice.

Another success idea from Donna is that she is “‘targeting the right audience, marketing properly, and using the right tool to thoroughly get my information out to the right people. Success in using the internet has always been positive for me.”  A healthy positive attitude goes a long way when striving to build that on line business.

By the photo you can tell  Donna is  no Baby Boomer but I felt her story of success was something  from which all us seniors on line could benfit.  As retirees we long for freedom to do our own thing and in Donna’s case she is already there while most her age are working at jobs they long to escape. Donna says, “I work from home where it is more informal  and brings out the creative side of me. If I was in more of a formal environment, my work output would be too stuffy and monotous. At home, I can feel more like myself.”  When the days work is done, she can go on her adventures, meet new people, and perhaps move on to another fun location.

Donna’s On Line Business

“I am a web site designer for RV parks. I also design websites that promote RV traveling and supports the RV community. Most of my income is from business advertising thru my own websites that promote the RV Lifestyle. My two websites that I own are http://www.travelbyrv.com and http://www.rvingblogs.com.
I’m located in Manchester, NH for the summer months and travel in an RV in the winter months. I left on November 20th 2008 to join the snowbirds of the south for five or six months. I’m 34 years old and I have a Maltese puppy named Jake. I’ve never been married and I have no children.”

Donna sums it all up when she says, “Trying to show seniors that people can be successful using the net hits home with me because where I travel from an RV, it really puts me in touch with the retirement population and they ask me how I live my life they way I do financially and when I tell them that I have an online business, they become very intrigued and I tell them exactly how it’s done.” Thank you Donna for showing us the meaning of on line success AND lifestyle success.

Donna uses the blog as a way of sharing her carefree winter adventures.  http://rvtrip08.wordpress.com/ Please note she has been in Florida, Arizona and managed to be in Vegas for the historic snow fall.  Gosh Donna the snow followed you to Vegas for that record 6 inch snowfall.

Donna sums it all up when she says, “Trying to show seniors that people can be successful using the net hits home with me because where I travel from an RV, it really puts me in touch with the retirement population and they ask me how I live my life they way I do financially and when I tell them that I have an online business, they become very intrigued and I tell them exactly how it’s done.” Thank you Donna for showing us the meaning of on line success.

Senior Servings–Chocolate Snacks for one or two

We seniors cooking in the empty nest, like to find recipes for one or two so we don’t eat left overs for a week or worse feel obligated to eat it all.  A pan of lasagna can last me all week while freezing some of the portions gets lost in the freezer. But I can handle that.  It is that desire for chocolate that presents a problem as I feel compelled to eat a whole cake or a pan of homemade candy without putting some aside for later.

So here are two snacks to solve that desire for a “little” bit of chocolate. The cake was sent to me  as an e-mail, the other I found when I searched for a good fugde receipe on line. Now I can limit the servings but wow I can have them made in minutes.

                                   F u d g e  for  O n e

In a 1 Qt. measuring cup/ or a bowl mix together:

1/3 c. sugar,   1 heaping T. Cocoa,  1T. plus 2t. milk  Microwave for 1 min.  Stir down  the sides and microwave for 40 sec. more. Watch as it will bubble quite high.

Add 1 scant T. butter, and 1/2 t. vanilla.  I added a heaping spoonful of peanut butter. Beat til thick. This really is not for one person, so be prepared to share some of your fudge.

+ + + + + + ++ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +

                       C h o c o l a t e   C a k e   aka (5min. choc. cake)

Butter the inside of large coffee mug.  Stir together:  4 T. flour, 4 T. white sugar, 2 T. cocoa.

Stir together:  1 egg, 3 T. milk, 3 T. oil,  Stir liquids into the flour mixture til smooth. Add 3 T. choc chips (optional) and a splash of vanilla.

Microwave 3 min.  Don’t panic the cake rises above the top of the mug.  ( I had to add a few more  sec. til done on top).  Tip out on a plate.  I cut in half to make 2 servings, as it really is  cake for two. Some frosting or whip cream  makes a perfect snack or dessert.

Panda Picked these two chocolate recipes to satisfy our love of chocolate while making the servings small for one or two.  Cooking for One can be fun and challenging.  Cooking for Two can be creative and healthy. Cooking the amount you need takes planning.

Seniors with part time work find Friendly Advertising Sites On Line

Seniors out of work look to the internet for an income source.  Or we seniors may be merely   looking for ways to make a few extra coins to supplement our retirement funds.  Right now we may be looking at investments that plunged, groceries becoming more expensive, heating costs rising for winter here in the colder climates. All are pushing on our budget.  So a few extra  coins might make a difference in our style of life. If we choose to use the internet we look for ways to advertise our products.

Assuming you have a business idea we now look at some potential advertising sites that are senior friendly. By senior friendly, we mean; easy to understand directions, visually easy to manage for those with eye problems and easy to use for those disabled or inconvenienced with arthritis.

Unlimited, free, business opportunity leads for any business

Pandy Lady picks orange leads advertising site as my favorite for the amount of exposure and ease of using the site.  After signing in, one merely scrolls down and puts in a 200 word or less ad, insert your http url site, and send off to 13 thousand (current membership)  as your ad appears on the front of the site.  Because it is growing by 1.4% this figure is not accurtate. You can contact your downline in the same way.  As often as you like,  you have access to free leads with phone numbers, adddresses, and names of potential customers or potential business partners. TAKE AS MANY LEADS A DAY AS YOU LIKE. The best part of all is that your mail box does not fill up with ads from everyone else.  Everyone merely looks at the ads on the front of the site and chooses what will help them build their business.

Search Engine Optimization/ SEO Tools— Search Engines will do the advertising for you. All you do is insert your url and your e-mail address. Here is what you get as reported to me when I completed the process. Click on the above banner  fill in your information and here is what I received at the completion.

Order our 75,000 search engine submission and one of our analysts will evaluate your site for any such problems and we’ll also send you a list of things you can do to improve your rankings. “  All that exposure made me a happy senior working on the net as now  my ad has maximum exposure.

Panda  Lady picked two of the most powerful ways I find to advertise without bugging friends and  business friends.  Saving time in advertising means we have time to go do those fun things we Seniors enjoy. We seniors with on line business after all we retired for a reason ie, not being held down to a schedule.

Seniors Seek Happy Heart Foods

Seniors love to use the internet to research subjects.  It saves a trip to the library, saves gas, and the internet is easy reading.  While checking out  information on one of the leading causes of death, heart disease.  I came across a nice magazine article in Lifescript.beta, written by Carly Young, where she lists 10 foods which give us healthy happy hearts.

check these for happy hearts

check these for happy hearts

The list is:  Oatmeal, almonds, flax-seeds, garlic, apples, beans, soy protein, psyllium husk or hulls and exercise.

I set out to see how much I could include in my breakfast yesterday.  My hot oatmeal – was what I was planning.  A chopped apple with the skins still on, some nuts, psyllium hulls, unprocessed wheat bran made quite a combination using 5 of the 10 items on their list.

If you read their 10 foods list, you will find ways to sneak the items into your diet.  So now all we need to do is to get those happy feet going for a nice long walk.

While doing the research to find the best heart foods, I came across the American Heart Association web site which gives us another neat way to use the internet.  They have directions for making your happy  heart shopping list. Their site teaches us another new skill, internet meal planning.

Panda Lady searched for the best products that we could find to help not only seniors, but all people  who use Psyllium, flaxseed and oatmeal.  Our top recommendations are:
flaxseed products

Oatmeal Bread

psyllium

Seniors Lured in by Scams

The latest scam which is quite prevelant  here in Northwest Ohio, is the caller who claims to be a relative stranded in Canada.  Supposedly they are being detained  and need money for fines and transportation home.  Funds should be sent via wire transfer, Western Union or MoneyGram.  Our Better Business Bureau has been contacted by many reporting this scam.

This scam can be carried out because your name, address, ages  children, phone   are listed on people search sites.  We seniors can become frustrated when we hear a youngster is in trouble and we want to resucue.  Never mind that we don’t recognize the voice.  With our families so scattered we may not have heard the voice of our grandchildren for a long time.

Radio and Television are getting the scam information out here in our area.  You might alert others in your area as  to this scam  as it is growing rapidly so  a representative of our Better Buseau told me  The Better

Is there a “For Sale Sign” in your yard.  These scammers are not targeting the elderly who can’t defend themselves, they are appealing to the desperate who are having trouble selling there homes.

Go here to read  the descriptions of scam offers to help sell your house.  http://blogs.byownermls.com/2008/11/avoiding-common-homeowner-scams.html

While on line we have to have our defenses up.  This week, a nice skype chat turned into a blunt statement “Send me more than $150 US dollars”.  The nice thing about skype is that you just don’t respond.  Likewise, as we advertise our business ventures on line by giving out our e-mail address, we become the recipient of scam letters.  You know the one who is sick, father has died and left money in London.  Not original is it? I just learned that there is a place to report these incidents. Facebook has been hit with a Nigerian type scam where the person claims to be your on line friend stranded in another country. This involves high jacking your on line account. Mail on line.com. reports the latest on line scam.

Send your reports to: http://www.antiphishing.org/report_phishing.html
