Senior’s Enjoy Cornhole Backyard Game

Seniors are always looking for low impact exercise ideas. We have to be kind to joints, find just a couple of friends with which to socialize, and of course fit our budget.

The most difficult of this critera is cost when considering backyard toss game called Corn Hole. The boards can be built for about $36.00. No carpenter skills means it would be necessary to purchase at about $125.00.

In addition one needs a set of 4 bags for each person playing. Corn can be purchased, used fabric and some sewing skills can accomplish this. I made mine by finding canvas fabric at Goodwill, cutting it into 7″ squares. I double stitiched the bags using 1/4 inch seam allowance. Once filled with a pound of corn in each bag will bring the bag down to the regulation 6″ square. Again double stitch the bag shut.

Since I have a booth at Prospectors Flea Trade and Market in Lima Ohio, I made some extra bags available to people who might need to replace or secure several sets of cornhole bags. I sell them for $10 a set or $18.75 for 2 sets.

Prospectors Flea Market is located a mile from I-75, exit Harding Hwy, Lima Ohio. or Rt. 309 East. Come meet the friendly vendors across from the Allen Co Fairgrounds.

Seniors Learn how to use Rotators for Online Business

Seniors working on line to earn a little extra supplemental cash need the basic tools.  Checking out 12 sec commute site where they help people avoid the commute to work, we see all the basic tools for on line success. Today I checked out the Rotator button which took me to the rotator main page. On the upper bar was also the create rotator and the manage rotators buttons. Now this looks simple with only 2 steps.
First I decided to check out the on line video(s). Both were short and concise but helped me comprehend. As with the other tools12 sec commute provides the videos which are complete and concise verbal and visual directions. I can stop and replay them as often as I want or repeat if my senior memory gives me problems.

Rotator Main Page, Create a Rotator, Manage Rotators Bonus, with my upgraded membership ,I get unlimited rotators. Let’s load em up and move em out.

1) You can use it to promote multiple products, services or programs. Promote one url which will show your sites at random. You can show them equally or give extra exposure to ones you want to promote more.
2) You can use it to help your downline. Why not help your downline. Put everyone’s urls in the rotator and promote their sites. Some may have purchased more positions so they get more hits. Some may have won contests or need recognition so they get more hits.
3) You can use it to sell co-op advertising. People can pay you to be in the rotator you create and then you work for them to promote their sites..

Why the rotator tool? The URL Rotator can be used in a number of ways.

This is another of the great tools we have in 12 sec commute site. Even us Seniors with little or no computer skills can pull this one off. When I started on line I didn’t know what a url is, but now that is all I need to know to use rotators. Here’s what I did. When create rotator was opened I gave my rotator a name. Since the sites are all mailers where I send solo ads I typed in “List Mailers/solo ads” I had to choose to display sites by order entered into the system or give a priority for order and number of views per session.. I decided all would get equal number of dispays. I clicked on create and then in the new page I typed in the name of the site and the url. To be accurate their is a verify button to make sure the site opens correctly. Hit submit and then was given the opportunity to create more. The rotator is loaded up and ready to roll.

Panda Lady recommends 12 sec Commute tools with all the videos, conferences, and personal assists on skype. The on line business just keeps getting better all the time when supplied with the proper tools and training.

Seniors are not Idiots as in Id-10-T

Filed under: Panda Picks Musings — panda picks @ 1:14 pm  Tagged , , ,

We seniors, altho still learning so many skills , are not idiots when it comes to all this new technology. We are just on the learning curve. So let’s learn a new tech  word to defend ourselves.

When you seek support and you have it explained to you that it was an ID-10-T issue be aware that you are being snurkered.  So wise up and read that code again. .. IDIOT.

Remind the technologist that you were wise enough to choose them as the source of professional help and congratulate them that they still have employment.  Without wise people like us who seek their assistance they would be unemployed.

Another bit of advise.  When told to “click on any key“, be aware that there is no  key on your keyboard labeled “Any Key”.  They are telling you to choose a  key and click on it.  There now you won’t hear “took care of that Id-10-T issue”.

Seniors Dress To Stay Safe and Warm In Winter Weather

Thank goodness we seniors are more concerned with safety than with style.  But why not have both style and stay safe in this subzero weather.

Wear head gear.  Covered ears are essential to prevent frost bite  You think your hair will keep your head warm.  Think again as 40% of body heat can be lost from  your head. You might like ear pops, to add to your head covering options. Fleecy  or denim and very warm, they store easily in pockets and purses.

Keep fingers comfortableand warm in mittens rather than gloves.  Be sure to wear mittens that are snug at the wrist.  You might consider the mittens that double as gloves. Look for gloves or mittens that provide some traction for those times you want a secure hold.

Get a grip on that ice and snow  when you add treads to your shoes. Traction cleats provide that security with non slip ice treads that are easily added to any shoes.

Cover your mouth/nose with a scarf, mittened hand or mask to protect skin and lungs in extremely cold weather. we seniors shouldn’t be out long enough to need them, but mini heaters can be tucked inside some masks.

Wear layers of loose-fitting clothing, lightweight, warm clothing. Trapped air between the layers will insulate the body.

Keep at least a half tank of gas in your vehicle. A full tank of gas will prevent fuel line freeze up and allow for running the heater periodically if stranded.

Safety Note: Stay with your car while its warming . Don’t invite car thieves.

Keep walks free of ice. Look for pet friendly products to protect furry paws of our housemates with 4 legs. Lawn lovers also look for gentle ice removers that don’t leave residue on floors and carpets.

Panda Lady picked Safe and Warm for this discussion  as some of us are not snow birds.  We stay in the fridged north to be near our families and stay active in our community during the winter months.  The joy of staying in our community can be atained if we stay safe and warm in winter weather.

Weather information for Ottawa Canada provides vital information for staying safe: They report 80 people a year die in Canada from Winter weather related issues.

Holidays are a Hoarders Delight

Now that Thanksgiving, Christmas,  and New Year’s Day aka “The Holidays” have passed we seniors need to consider the cost as it pertains to how much stuff did we bring into the house.  Now please understand I am trying to keep a sense of humor and do not wish to offend people who have a serious disorder as it relates to hoarding, being a pack rat, or being a messy person.  It just came to my mind that “The Holidays” are just perfect for hoarders.

What are hoarders:
–keep objects with no apparent use
–keeping broken, torn, damaged items in the hope of restoring
–items are saved because someone can use them
–keeper of the family heirlooms, useless ones
–accepting clutter as normal
–save so much, one can not find what they need when they need it
–able to ignore rooms filling up with clutter
–items in rooms that do not belong there–ie. kids toys in kitchen, laundry on the bed
–keep materials to read later
–all flat surfaces are covered
–obesity, isolation, loneliness results of extreme clutter and messiness.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
So here’s why the holidays are such a delight for the hoarder.  If our house is not presentable we just count on going to others parties and get ogethers.  Now certainly there will be lots of left overs we can bring home in cottage cheese containers.  Wow more plastic containers to add to our stack along with some plastic baggies. Certainly that extra food will help fill the already too full fridge.
Now for gifts.  Receive a new set of something, we just have to keep the old.  Yipee, more pans, lids, another set of clippers to keep as a back up.  Who wouldn’t be proud to add another bottle of lotion and potion to the cupboards over flowing with every scent available.   With luck a hoarder will receive more than one of the same gift.  Don’t even think about kid’s toys.  Of course the old broken ones can be fixed so just put them aside for now and we will get to them later.  So the sweater and  jeans don’t fit, save them and please don’t return them.  Someday we might fit into them or at best someone can use them. Never mind that your Aunt gave you grandmothers set of dishes you always disliked.  You can be the keeper of the family heirloom as you box it up and store it away in the closet of other unwanted items. Several of the gifts will look so neat sitting out on the shelf or counter, but where?  It seems we already have most of the fat surfaces already covered but then what is one more candle or figurine
The holidays mean we have lots of cards to read later.  Of course we save them and the envelopes as we need to remember these people next year.  Then there are the receipes in the newspaper which we will clip later along with the home made gift ideas articles.  Because we have been so busy we certainly have lots of reading set aside to get to when all calms down.

I would certainly be in error if I didn’t point out that we have lots of bows and wrapping paper to add to our collection hidden somewhere.  Until we find that box, the new bows and wrappings can put in another box.

Best of all the holidays mean we can indulge in all the foods and drinks of the season.  Woopee, more snacking to feed our depression as we look at the overwhelming mess accumulating. All those t.v. shows and magazine featurers of skinny people having a great party only make us want to eat some more as we drownd in the clutter.

Just when you thought I was finished, I think it wise to point out that the neighbors have thrown out some mighty fine things.  They can be fixed and certainly someone can use them.  And wow, just look at the cardboard boxes at the curb side.  They would be great for packing and storing all the great stuff just added to our household.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Panda picked the subject of hoaders at the holidays because it ALL seems to get out of hand during “The Holidays”. ……Not enough time, obligations we can’t keep, too many activities, too much expense and most of all just too much with which to deal.  Again I hope my light hearted attitude toward the subject has not offended.  Panda Lady just wants you to know you are not alone and there is a solution.

For more understanding on disposaphobia visit Mayo Clinic site.  The subject of hoarders came to me after reading an article in the newspaper about hoarders being put on probation.  Yes, the problem is a danger to their safety.  I recently came across a book “It’s all Too Much” by Peter Walsh  star of TLC series “Clean Sweep” and began reading to help me understand the article.  Everyone can find a little of themselves in the book and hopefully we never get to the level of the pictures listed in the opening paragraph.

Seniors Seek Quality Sleep

Seniors seek quality sleep so that we are alert in the daytime and can enjoy quality time for all the activities we wish to be involved with.
Sleep disorders and their treatment have been known for more than a generation. Perhaps you know about sleep walkers, narcolepsy (excessive sleepiness in daytime hours, falling asleep on cue ie laughter) sleep apnea (snoring, snorting and interrupted breathing often falling asleep in inappropriate places like driving or in meetings), restless leg syndrome ( jerking of feet and legs while sleeping) . All of these affect the quality of sleep and thus affect quality of life. If you live with someone with one of these sleep problems, you know that it interrupts your sleep patterns too.
Here is a sleep disorder that is quite new to me. I know of someone who does not eat til late in the day and eats large amounts of food during the night-sleeping hours. This was strange to me, but quite a surprise to learn that it is a sleep disorder .
Symptoms of NES include the following:
* Little or no appetite for breakfast.
* Eating more food after dinner than during the meal.
* Eating more than half of daily food intake after dinner hour.

* Recurrent awakenings from sleep requiring eating to fall back asleep.

Read here for more information on sleep-eating disorder: The site has information on all the sleep disorders.

http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/guide/sleep-related-eating-disorders?ecd=wnl_day_122208

Panda picked the subject of sleep eating disorders as we seek quality sleep to ensure quality lifestyle.  Many resolve to lose weight as we start the new year but sleep eating disorders may interferr with that goal.

P.S.  This just in Jan. 3 from Lifescript.  Perhaps there is additional cause to seek quality sleep.  Knowledge provides power–the power to control the quality of our last years on earth.

Seniors age with style

Filed under: Panda Picks Musings — panda picks @ 11:33 pm  Tagged , ,

Age is an issue of mind over matter.  If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.

                                                                                    ~Mark Twain

What is your impression of this quote?  It seems those who age with grace and style are those who follow Mark Twain’s advice.  Enjoy this season of your life.

Panda picked this quote to remind us to not dwell on what we no longer have but appreciate what we have to enjoy in our senior years.
